Bostick-Sullivan :: Darkroom & Lab Safety Gear
Bostick & Sullivan recommends the use of full protective gear while working in your darkroom.
Gloves: Gloves should be worn at all times. Latex gloves offer good protection at an economical price. Nitrile gloves provide a superior barrier against darkroom chemicals and are more durable than latex gloves.
Eye Protection: Eye protection should be worn anytime you are dealing with liquids, coating paper with emulsions, processing prints and negatives in trays and drums or handling any chemicals.
Breathing apparatus: Breathing apparatus must be used any time airborne particles, dust or vapors may be present. Simple "painter's" masks prevent again some dust particles, but they do not protect against vapors. Acid filtering gas masks will provide an extra level of protection while working in enclosed spaces.
Clothing protection: Rubber aprons provide an extra barrier against corrosive and staining chemicals.
